Nigeria’s Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) exports increased to 14.78 million metric tonnes (Mt) in 2025 from 13.78 Mt in 2024, generating an estimated ₦20.06 trillion in export value, according to the 2026 World LNG Report.
Based on an average global LNG price of about $990 per metric tonne, Nigeria’s 2025 exports were valued at approximately $14.63 billion, equivalent to ₦20.06 trillion at the official exchange rate of ₦1,371 per U.S. dollar. By comparison, the country’s 2024 LNG exports were worth an estimated $13.78 billion or ₦18.89 trillion.
The report showed that Nigeria accounted for 3.4% of global LNG exports in 2025, making it the seventh-largest LNG exporter in the world, behind the United States, Qatar, Australia, Russia, Malaysia, and Indonesia.
Nigeria’s stronger performance also boosted Africa’s overall LNG exports, which rose by 1.8 Mt to 39.77 Mt, despite lower export volumes from Algeria and Egypt.
Global LNG trade reaches new record
Worldwide LNG trade grew by 25.74 Mt, or 6.3%, reaching a record 436.98 Mt in 2025. The increase was driven mainly by higher production from:
* The United States (+22.3 Mt)
* Qatar (+4.3 Mt)
* Malaysia (+1.1 Mt)
* Angola (+1.1 Mt)
* Nigeria (+1.0 Mt)
Among the world’s top LNG exporters in 2025 were:
