A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kwara State and former Nigerian ambassador to Japan, Prof. Gana Isa, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign, arguing that the Federal Government has failed in its constitutional duty to protect the lives and property of Nigerians.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin, Isa said that if the government could no longer effectively address the country’s worsening security challenges, it should relinquish power to leaders capable of restoring peace and stability.
He stressed the need for committed and patriotic leadership to tackle kidnapping, banditry, and other violent crimes, urging the government to treat the security crisis with greater urgency.
Isa also questioned the effectiveness of Nigeria’s current security architecture, citing persistent attacks in different parts of the country. He advocated stronger government support for regional and community-based security initiatives, including forest guards and vigilante groups, noting that many had continued to serve despite inadequate funding and equipment.
According to him, these local security outfits deserve greater financial and logistical support to strengthen their operations.
The former Kwara State Deputy Speaker and Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources further claimed that incidents of kidnapping and banditry appeared to decline during political party primaries and election periods, urging Nigerians to critically assess the country’s security situation.
In response to ongoing concerns over insecurity, the Federal Government has consistently maintained that it remains committed to addressing the problem through sustained military operations, improved intelligence gathering, and stronger collaboration among security agencies.
