The Federal Government has expressed its condolences to the Government and people of Qatar following the death of the country’s Father Amir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, who died at the age of 74.
In a statement issued on Sunday by the spokesperson of Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, the government extended its sympathies to Qatar’s leadership, the Al Thani family, and the people of the Gulf nation.
Sheikh Hamad, who served as Emir of Qatar from 1995 to 2013, was described as a distinguished and visionary leader whose leadership transformed Qatar into a major global player through economic development, modernization, and international engagement.
The statement noted that his commitment to progress, wisdom, and international cooperation would leave a lasting legacy for Qatar, the Gulf region, and the international community.
On behalf of the Federal Government and the people of Nigeria, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, conveyed condolences to Qatar’s current Amir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, as well as the Qatari people.
She reaffirmed Nigeria’s solidarity with Qatar during its period of mourning and prayed for strength and comfort for the late Father Amir’s family and the people of Qatar.
