The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects over the alleged machete attack on an 18-year-old student of Government Day Secondary School, Miri, Bauchi State.
The incident reportedly occurred on July 15, 2026, at Birindi Sabon Kauran Lafiyari while the student was returning home from school.
According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, the victim’s father reported the attack at the ‘B’ Division, GRA, Bauchi, explaining that two unidentified men armed with machetes stopped his son and questioned him about where he was coming from before one of them allegedly inflicted a deep cut on his left hand and fled the scene.
Police officers responded immediately, taking the victim to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where he is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.
Following the victim’s identification of the attackers, police investigations led to the arrest of three suspects:
* Aliyu Abubakar (23)
* Mubarak Muhammad (18)
* Salisu Abubakar, popularly known as Ustas (22)
All three suspects are residents of Wuntin Dada, Bauchi, and police said dangerous weapons believed to be connected to the attack were recovered during the operation.
However, three other suspects—identified as Ismail (alias Matsala), Abba Sarkin Fawa, and Sagir (alias Kwalba)—remain at large after fleeing the area.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, condemned the attack and directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for a thorough investigation. He also ordered a manhunt for the fleeing suspects and instructed that those already arrested be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
The police urged parents, guardians, and school authorities to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities around schools and communities. The command also appealed to members of the public with useful information on the whereabouts of the fleeing suspects to report to the nearest police station.
