Ford and Geely Auto have unveiled a new partnership to produce electric SUVs at Ford’s Valencia plant in Spain, marking Geely’s first European manufacturing base as both companies expand in the region’s growing EV market.
Under the deal, Ford will control 66% of the joint venture while Geely holds 33%. Production of Geely-branded electric SUVs is scheduled to begin in 2028.
Jim Baumbick, Ford’s President of Europe, emphasized that the collaboration will revitalize the underutilized Spanish facility, saying the aim is to fully maximize its capacity.
The agreement builds on the companies’ long-standing ties, dating back to Geely’s purchase of Volvo Cars from Ford in 2010. Geely’s Senior Vice President Victor Yang confirmed that the first model to be manufactured will be the EX5 electric SUV, already available in several European markets, with another model currently in development.
