The Jigawa State Police Command has urged residents not to panic if they hear gunshots on Sunday, explaining that the sounds will come from a scheduled firearms training exercise for police personnel.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, the command said the exercise is designed to improve the capacity, professionalism, combat readiness, and operational effectiveness of officers in carrying out their constitutional duties.
According to the statement, the training will take place on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the CP AT Abdullahi Shooting Range in Tsohon Gari, Birnin Kudu Local Government Area, as part of the command’s routine operational training and firearms proficiency programme.
The police assured residents, especially those living in Tsohon Gari and nearby communities, that the exercise would be conducted in a controlled and secure environment under strict supervision.
“The public should not panic upon hearing gunshots during the period of the exercise, as the firing will be conducted in a controlled and secured environment,” the statement said.
Residents were also advised to stay away from the immediate vicinity of the shooting range throughout the exercise to ensure their safety and allow the training to proceed without disruption.
The command noted that the exercise is aimed at strengthening officers’ operational competence and enhancing their readiness to protect lives and property across Jigawa State.
It thanked residents for their understanding, cooperation, and continued support, reaffirming its commitment to safeguarding lives and property while continuously improving the professional competence of its personnel.
