Numerous medical equipment valued at millions of Naira were destroyed in a fire incident at Ebonyi State Ministry of Health. The incident took place early on Saturday at Block 5 Centenary City Abakaliki. The Hon. Commissioner for Health, Dr. Moses Ekuma expressed his distress over the destruction of the cold store, which housed crucial vaccination supplies, solar units, refrigerators, batteries, and other essential equipment. Fortunately, there were no casualties, and he thanked the relevant authorities for their timely response. Ekuma mentioned that various vaccines were lost in the fire, attributing the cause to a lack of public power supply and non-functioning solar power backup. A committee has been formed to investigate the incident and prevent future occurrences. The significant damage caused by the fire to their immunization operations was also acknowledged. Mr. Frank Oka Ota, from the Ebonyi State Fire Service, reported receiving a distress call and immediately mobilizing his team to contain the fire and prevent its spread.
