Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (Rtd), has dismissed reports claiming he resigned from office, describing the rumours as false and vowing to take legal action against those responsible for spreading them.
Speaking to journalists on Tuesday after meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, Musa said he was surprised by the reports and insisted he has no intention of leaving his position.
The minister said he had never discussed resigning with anyone and questioned the source of the claim. He warned that anyone found to have originated or circulated the false information would face legal action.
Musa suggested that the rumours may have been spread by individuals unhappy with the progress being recorded in the country’s security efforts.
According to him, Nigeria’s security situation has improved, with ongoing operations by the armed forces yielding positive results. He added that President Tinubu expressed satisfaction with the latest security briefing he presented during their meeting.
The Defence Minister also thanked Nigerians for their continued support, stressing that defeating terrorism and banditry requires a collective effort involving both security agencies and citizens.
He expressed confidence that security conditions across the country would continue to improve, urging the public to remain supportive of ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability.
Earlier, Musa had also denied the resignation claims in a statement issued through his media aide, Leah Katung-Babatunde, describing the reports as baseless.
